e-Stewards Certified Recycler, Cohen Recycling, broke ground the week of August 17, 2015 on a 110,000 square foot expansion dedicated to e-waste recycling.
Even in the middle of an industry slump, Cohen believes in the value responsible recycling, as outlined in the e-Stewards Standard, brings to their business and community. And the community believes in Cohen recycling, as their collection events have grown each year, along with Cohen’s clientele.
Cohen’s community outreach involves presentations given by Cohen’s Vice President, Adam Dumes. Dumes says these presentations and talks have grown Cohen’s business. They’ve done so by connecting them with sustainability professionals at organizations that can become clients.
Part of Cohen’s aim in their presentations and marketing efforts is to educate the public on e-waste—mainly that it’s something recyclable. But also that Cohen, a fully-certified outlet for e-waste, is a convenient, trustworthy place to recycle electronics. “Every person matters, and every thing matters,” says Dumes about the importance of responsible recycling.
And having e-Stewards certification gives Cohen a competitive advantage in getting large accounts, as many clients won’t speak with them without it. The Basel Action Network exposés also help, and have shaped Cohen’s strategy, which has helped them expand into the 110,000 square foot space.
