Trade Association $pends to Oppose Export Ban

Two interesting tidbits in e-Scrap News: ISRI spent $280,000 in lobbying in the second quarter of 2011, and an additional $110,000 in the third quarter.

ISRI is the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries, a trade association for some recyclers. They lobby lawmakers to join ISRI in opposition to a proposed ban on the export of hazardous electronic waste to developing countries.

We, of course, disagree. And we have known for quite some time that ISRI has spent a lot of money in Washington, D.C. We just didn’t know how much — almost $400,000 since March!

Put another way, spread out over a year, ISRI’s lobbying expenditure is just shy of BAN’s entire operating budget.
