“Children on the Frontlines: The e-Waste Epidemic in Africa”

Waste Burner at Agbogbloshie Dumpsite, Accra, Ghana. Copyright BAN 2009.

Agbogbloshie, a slum on the outskirts of Accra, Ghana, is where computers die horrible deaths. Jim Puckett knows Agbogbloshie well, having conducted e-waste investigations there (see Jim’s essay “Away is a Place,” available here).

The environmental news site Mongabay.com just published this profile of Agbogbloshie and interview with Dr. Kwei Quartey, Ghanaian author and physician. Well worth reading.
