The following e-Stewards Standard related materials are available:
- The full e-Stewards Standard required for all certification purposes (purchase required)
- An excerpted version of the e-Stewards Standard without ISO 14001
- Sanctioned Interpretations providing up to date clarifications and changes of the Standard required for certification purposes
- Appendices (reference materials) from the e-Stewards Standard
The official e-Stewards Standard combined with the Sanctioned Interpretations of the e-Stewards Standard must be used for the purposes of certification. The use of ISO 14001 proprietary language and the licensing of it from ISO requires a purchase price for the full standard. According to the licensing agreement with the ISO Geneva and the American National Standards Institute, the purchase price covers the cost of one copy. If the purchaser receives that in digital format, they may produce one hard copy of the standard, as well.
There are two ways to purchase the official e-Stewards Standard:
By check: Send a check for $131.25 dollars (for a Washington State ship to address, the amount is $143.72 including sales tax) payable to:Basel Action Network 206 First Avenue S, Suite 410 Seattle, WA, 98104
Please include your email address for an electronic copy (PDF), or a mailing address, should you prefer a hard copy.

An excerpted version of the Standard, which contains all the industry-specific e-Stewards performance requirements but only summarizes the ISO requirements is available here: e-Steward Standard: Excerpted Version. NOTE: This version may not be used for the purposes of certification. The purpose of this excerpted document is to provide open access to information about the specific e-Stewards requirements that are built into the ISO requirements for an environmental management system. This version may be freely distributed.
The e-Stewards Sanctioned Interpretation provides readers of the Standard a single place to find clarifications and interpretations of the Standard in between formal revisions. The Sanctioned Interpretation is intended mainly for accreditation bodies, certification bodies, and candidate e-Stewards who are working with the e-Stewards Standard in the Final Verification process. However, questions from all sources will be considered and responded to as appropriate.
Interpretations published in this document shall be referenced for any audits of an e-Stewards candidate organization against the e-Stewards Standard.
Appendix A: e-Stewards Standard Guidance Document. The Guidance Document is provided to aid in interpretation of requirements as well as to provide guidance in how to meet the requirements in the Standard, including many leading practices provided by industry. The guidance document is not binding on e-Stewards recyclers but is for guidance and explanation purposes, and will be updated regularly.
Appendix B: Rules for e-Stewards Certification Bodies. Appendix B lists requirements that are applicable for all Certification Bodies which are performing audits and certifying e-Stewards recyclers.
Appendix C: Implementation Support. The Standard also includes a set of tools for e-Stewards recyclers to use in implementing their environmental management systems with performance requirements specific to this industry. Many of these tools have been provided by leaders in the industry.
